Beginning in the 1970s, with the development of information and communication technology and the globalisation of trade and finance, the phenomenon of off-shoring in the global manufacturing industry became prominent, and the globalisation of production became evident as manufacturing plants in Europe and the United States moved to developing countries with lower labour costs. The globalisation of production led by transnational corporations has had a profound impact on labour relations in particular, and academic discussions on this have been active. Latin America is also one of the regions where the globalisation of production has led to the investment and movement of transnational companies. However, most of the domestic studies that analyse the impact of globalisation of production in Latin America have focused on economic impacts and very few on labor relations. Against this backdrop, this study discusses the impact of the globalisation of production on labour relations in Latin America, which has received relatively little attention from Latin American researchers in Korea. In particular, this study examines the impact of globalisation of production on labor relations in Colombia, focusing on the case of cut-flower industry. This study argues that racial, class, and gendered social relations are reproduced in labour relations within the framework of weak labour regulations and arbitrary labor norms called private codes of conduct, and workers" rights and human rights are not properly guaranteed.
