New media are characterized by interactivity. In particular, television has emerged as a mass medium that maximizes interactivity, and studies are being conducted on the changes in television within the sociocultural context of the post-network era. As such interactivity is only possible through devices that provide convenience and mobility for the subject, the screens of today’s televisions are characterized by being free from spatial constraints. This study aims to examine television viewability due to the multi-screening of post-television. I focus on Lacan’s discussion of subjectivity as his psychoanalytic discussion is a psychological mechanism to explain the subjects who experience content, and it has been utilized to explain the audiences of various linear content before television. From this perspective, this study discusses how the screen mediation of television can change the viewer’s spectatorship. It also suggests the implications of the audience’s relationship with television in the post-network era.
