(Background and Purpose) As a vital way to protect cultural heritage, the heritage industrial museum is popular in the industrial heritage protection and reuse model in China. However, influenced by the design way of the traditional history or natural museum, the Chinese Heritage Industrial Museum has exposed design problems such as the outdated space concept and rigid functional layout, thus constraining the development of spatial design in the heritage industrial museum in China severely. Therefore, the research aims to seek the characteristics of the spatial design of the Chinese Heritage Industrial Museum, explore the causes of the current spatial design problems, and provide the development direction for the spatial design of the Chinese Heritage Industrial Museum in the future. (Method) In the research, the concept, type, and value of the Chinese Heritage Industrial Museum are investigated theoretically. According to the previous research, the space value feature and characteristics of spatial composition in the Chinese Heritage Industrial Museum are integrated, four characteristics of spatial design, the characteristics of the design's elements and contents are derived, and further, the framework of the case analysis. Finally, nine cases are selected for the visual analysis of spatial design characteristics to explore the current performance and enlightenment of the spatial design characteristics in the Chinese Heritage Industrial Museum. (Results) It can be found from the case research result that the historical characteristics of the collection are mainly displayed for the spatial design feature of the Chinese Heritage Industrial Museum, and the narrative feature of the space is the weakest. It is one of the causes of the spatial design problems of the Chinese Heritage Industrial Museum. (Conclusions) The research proposes that the spatial design feature of the heritage industrial museum is mainly composed of the historical feature of the collection, the integration feature of the function, the experience feature of the exhibition, and the narrative feature of the space. The specific expression of the spatial design feature is realized by the authentic, complete, technical, integrated, artistic, experienced, narrative, and educational design elements & contents. At the same time, the means and ways to solve the spatial design problems of the heritage industrial museum are analyzed from the development direction of the narrative feature of spatial design. Moreover, it is suggested to consider meeting the diversified demands of the public to guarantee the balanced development of the characteristics of spatial design in the Chinese Heritage Industrial Museum. In the future, it hopes to conduct systematic and specific research on more heritage industrial museum cases based on the research results.
