Marine polysaccharides, such as alginate, chitosan, and fucoidan, have excellent bio- compatibility and biodegradability as well as low inflammatory response, making them promising candidates for application in biomedical engineering. Biomedical engineering, which aims to develop physiological and biological substitutes to treat tissue loss due to disease, congenital abnormalities, or trauma, has garnered considerable attention. Moreover, the field highly emphasizes on designing biomimetic materials. Although understanding the biological effects and mechanisms of these materials through omics technologies is essential for advancing personalized or disease-targeted biomedical technologies, relatively few studies have explored the biological inter- actions and mechanisms of marine polysaccharide-based composites. This study provides a thorough overview of marine polysaccharides as biomaterials and examines recentomics-based research trends within biomedical engineering. Although marine polysaccharides have various physiological functions, including potential uses as functional ingredients, nutraceuticals, and cosmetic agents, this review focuses specifically on their effects relevant to biomedical applications.
