This study investigates how AI technology can be used to develop Chinese lesson plans and assist pre-service teachers in creating effective plans through ChatGPT’s GPTs feature. To facilitate this, the ‘Chinese Lesson Planner’ GPTs was developed, and pre-service teachers used it to create lesson plans. The GPTs offered support in modifying lesson formats, recommending teaching methods, developing assessments, providing cultural resources, correcting linguistic content, and translation.
However, there were instances where the responses from GPTs were inaccurate or did not align with students’ levels, and some responses were difficult to obtain due to insufficient or excessive learning data. Despite these challenges, GPTs proved to be a powerful tool for streamlining the lesson plan creation process and supporting teachers’ creativity.
It is essential, however, for teachers to verify the accuracy of the information provided by the GPTs and use their expertise and critical thinking to refine the lesson plans. Teachers must carefully review and adjust the AI-generated content to ensure that the essence of education is preserved and the quality of teaching is maintained.
A collaborative relationship between AI and teachers is necessary to maximize AI’s efficiency and creativity. By doing so, teachers can focus on delivering customized education that addresses individual student needs. Ultimately, AI can help reduce teachers’ workload, improve the quality of education, and enable more effective and innovative teaching. Continuous research and development of AI technology are required to shape the future of education.
