This study investigates the educational potential of using social media and digital platforms in formative design education, aiming to propose an innovative model that bridges traditional and digital approaches. Integrating Bolter and Grusin’s remediation theory, Castells’ network society, and Jenkins’ participatory culture, this research examines how combining traditional design elements with digital technologies enhances learning through both immersive and interactive experiences, facilitating global collaboration and learner-driven creativity. Key findings indicate that real-time interaction and collective intelligence within digital environments significantly boost learner motivation and the educational value of these programs. The study also highlights practical challenges such as the digital divide, copyright issues, and teacher preparedness, suggesting inclusive digital literacy education and institutional support as potential remedies. By articulating a design education model where traditional hands-on practices and contemporary digital media mutually reinforce each other, this research provides a theoretical foundation for future advancements in art and design education. Furthermore, it emphasizes the necessity of ongoing research into the integration of emerging technologies like the metaverse and generative AI to further cultivate creativity and collaborative skills in the digital age.
