Recently, the number of households living with pets has been increasing, partly due to the rise in single-person households and the growing social perception of pets as a second family. However, on the other side, there is also a growing trend of abandoned dogs due to reckless adoptions and surrenders. This project aims to establish a comprehensive facility that provides support for abandoned dogs through protection, adoption, and training as therapy dogs. The concept of the space planning solution is ‘on the border.’ Literally translated, it means ‘on the edge’ or ‘at the boundary,’ symbolizing the position of the facility as a ‘border’ between the streets and a new home in the process of rehoming abandoned dogs.The facility is planned to be a four-story building located in the natural green area of Hanam City, which is centrally situated within Gyeonggi Province. Indoors, it includes a large kennel area as well as spaces for conducting various adoption education and promotion programs. Outdoors, there are efficient and interconnected walking paths and training facilities. All of these features are essential for the proper operation of the animal protection center, aimed at increasing adoption rates. Ultimately, this is expected to alleviate the overpopulation of animal shelters and reduce the rate of abandoned animals.
