This study aims at to study the Child Figure, A Poetic Self
and consciousness in Baek Seok's poems. Baek Seok's children describing poems is shown all the way through his poetic life, and it is a key to solve his poetic sense and spirit.
Baek Seok is a poet who shows the love of all living creation, especially the weak lives, as so children and animals. In Baek Seok's poems, children are naive beings not relating to poverty and stem reality of life, or they have characteristics of mystery and holiness, when they are in rural community.
But the poetic self meets many children in the strange place, wandering in the outside of community. In such a cases, they are appeared beings to suffer the stem reality of life, separated from their parents. The human relationship with children in a strange city and residential area, are associated closely his isolation consciousness and poverty. So, the poetic self involve himself to the weak and good-natured children, counter vulgarities of life together. And in this time, children are beings who have innate quality and ideas.
In Baek Seok's children describing poems, we are able to trace out the clues of his poetic changes. They indicate that his poems are mainly concerned with the ontological way, and the internallzation of his hometown loss and recovery in the colonial period.
