The purpose of this study is to inquire into a nature(sea, mountain) metaphorical aspects of Jung Ji-yong's poetry and a poetic meaning of this kind of expression. So author have described the conceptional history of metaphor and the meaning of a nature on the modern poetry.
In his early and middle works, it is driven toward his metaphor in admiration and dread for finding a new world, and it is also expressed in piles by an image for the sorrows as a colonist. That is, his metaphors with respect to the 'Sea' have a role as a image metaphor of the confrontation for contradictory condition.
And, From his latter poetry he had not use the metaphor and the symbol for 'Mountain' as a modality of traditional landscape poetry. And author have disclosed he used that as poetic transcendence and reflection of existential ones. At the same time, I have researched that the poetic persona had been passed a discovery and a self-reflection among Nature-Things-World.
The natural images of 'Sea' and 'Mountain' grant a mediation which grasp in its totality of Jung Ji-yong's poetry. Author assures that the view of nature of Jung Ji-yong could overcome modernism as conquest and control and premodern as metaphysics and morality, and 'Nature' as 'Ohters' could stand among <Question-Discovery-consideration> as a poetic consciousness. Of course, It needs some analysis with delicacy.
The most important thing is, 'Nature' of Jung Ji-yong's poetry hadn't been distorted by premodern metaphysical model based on sinking one's time. By this research, therefore, natural image and metaphor is another result of poetic confrontation of his age.
