It is a thought-provoking novel where Sun-won Hwang, who devoted 50 years of his writing career to probe for the meaning of life and being, gives his unique insight into the root and order of life. The theme is that all of us head for our own life goals, which is what life is all about, thereby fulfilling the purpose of being. Life is, in the end, the upward interaction between our intrinsic desire to satisfy human needs and the instinct of self realization.
The author recognizes life as an eternal process. Although based on ethical cognition, it provides a new framework of perceiving life as it is a fundamental way-out from the vices of the modern world. Life as a process can lead people to contemplate the true sense of existence and enjoy a mature life. Given today's ever growing feeling of individualism and alienation, it can serve as a refreshing message.
