This article intended to develop the learner-centered contents in literary history education. The knowledge-based teaching has been highly emphasized in literary history education so far, but gradually the importance of learner-centered teaching has been recognized. On the knowledge-based point of view, the contents of literary history education are mostly the facts about authors, works in literary history, but on the learners-centered point of view, the contents are the activities; relating, explaining, and interpreting the facts on litearry history. And I demonstrated three contents of literary history education; formation of genres, relation of language and literature, relation of literature and world.
Jeong Ji-Yong’s poetics texts are suited to literary history education, because he was the first modern poet in Korea, and he had written the texts for the purpose teaching his junior poets. In this article, the contens of literary history education took more concrete shape from his poetics, which are the meaning of the organic view of the poetry, the problem of contents-form of poetry, and spiritualism in Korean poetry history.
Based on the study result above, learner-centered literary history education will contribute to the learner’s enhanced literary ability. This change, to give more weight on learner’s activity and interpretation, will produce people with active, questioning and subjective mind to literature.
