The purpose of this paper will be tried out how the man-made culture IS influenced and how much our culture has been changed in the contexts of our basic philosophy, that is, the faith of mountain which is related with mountain and human beings during our historical period from Korea in the reign of TanGun to Yi Dynasty. It is analyzed to examine the function and role of mountain and to classify the faiths of mountain based on achieves and landscape paintings, old maps including the wall paintings of ancient tombs in the field of visual art.
The mountain worship is a kind of belief to protect a nation, a community, or even a man with relying on the spiritual mountain which is the living site to come down the god. There are classified the god of mountain into the direction and territory limiting the space, the spacial existence in the reign of king as a sacred precinct facing south and north, the guardian mountain to protect the nation and to preserve the Royal house, the outer god to keep the peaceful living as the protecting deity of the religion, the management of all lives in fields and mountains, the guardian god to protect a community and the ancient god to control the house.
