The objectives of this study are to investigate the correlations among adiponectin, bone mineral density(BMD), estrogen hormones in common obese menopausal women and obese women with hormone replacement therapy(HRT) and to suggest exercise program as a way to prevent obesity, metabolic syndrome, and cardiovascular disease and to minimize the side effects from menopause. The data sets were collected before 12-week aerobic exercise program and after the program.
The subjects were divided into two groups. Group Ⅰ(n = 7) has common obese menopausal women and Group Ⅱ(n = 7) has obese women with HRT. The results are as follows.
1. Body weights were significantly decreased for Group Ⅰ(p<.05) and Group Ⅱ(p<.01) after the program. For Group Ⅰ %fat was significantly decreased(p<.05) and LBM was significantly increased(p<.05).
2. BMD of right ankle was significantly increased(p<.05) for both groups. BMD of left ankle was insignificantly increased.
3. Estrogen was insignificantly increased after 12-week program.
4. Adiponectin was significantly increased for Group Ⅰ(p<.05) and Group Ⅱ(p<.01).
5. The BMD of right ankle had positive correlation(p<.01) with estrogen and negative correlation(p<.05) with adiponectin and there was significant negative correlation(p<.05) between estrogen and adiponectin for Group Ⅱ before the program. The BMD of left ankle had significant negative correlation(p<.05) with adiponectin after the program.
6. The BMD of left ankle had significant positive correlation(p<.01) with that of right ankle for Group Ⅰ before and after the program. Adiponectin had significant negative correlation(p<.05) with the BMD of both ankles.
