The purpose of the paper is to discuss the following two topics: Firstly, are to describe syntagmatic relation of ‘아니’ in the conjoined sentence. Sencondly, are to examine the scope of negation with ‘아니’, ‘-디 아니?-’ in the conjoined sentence.
The scope of negation in korean modern conjoined sentence is found differently in the kind of conjoined sentence. Up to the present, the scope of negation has been made frequent use one of the criterion of distinguishing subordinate conjoined sentence from coordinate conjoined sentence. But the scope of negation in middle korean conjoined sentence has never been discussed.
So in this paper, I examined the negation in middle korean first, then I examined the syntagmatic order of ‘아니’. The syntagrnatic order of ‘아니’ in middle korean is different from modern korean. ‘아니’ precedes verb immediately in modern korean, but there are some cases in middle korean which show that ‘아니’ do not precede verb immediately. So I tried to explain this problem.
Finally, I examined the scope of negation in several cases that are found in following clause of conjoined sentence. The scope of negation is defined like below,
