The purpose of this study is to achieve some general information and ideas on the current Business English education in two-year-college from a broad perspective review on the contents of the textbooks. In this study, eight English textbooks were chosen for a review on their contents. Authors of all the sample textbooks were confined to the faculty members, especially who are presently in charge of the Business English courses in each Secretarial . Business related major in junior colleges.
Business English courses in the above major's curriculums have special aspects as ESP(English for Specific Purposes), which is mainly focused on the context of the modem business office environment.
Since the students constitution in junior colleges is unique comparing with that of universities', a specialized language training program is necessary to satisfy their needs. Under the circumstances, the role of textbooks take place much more of importance in Business English education,
The eight textbooks were divided into two categories; Business English Conversation and Documents considering the contents and goals of the various Business English courses. The contents composition of the textbooks were examined based on the five broad types of syllabus by McDonough & Shaw(1993), especially on functional-notional and situational type.
Through the broad examination over the materials, some common points were found Every textbook contains basic English grammars like tense, possessives, etc. They also present some specific vocabulary groups like business procedures, office facilities, job positions, office equipments, stationeries, etc.
In conclusion, textbooks for the Business English courses in the Secretarial . Business related major are generally reflecting the features of the students group effectively. Though following suggestions are to be made for further achievements.
One is to strengthen the current vocabulary appendix volume in both quantity and quality. The other is to develop and enhance the supporting materials in audio visual section to stimulate the students' language interests in the new millenium
