This thesis is to research ‘the journalist’ Kim Ki-Rim and examine his text “A Trip to Kando” that is not well known to rearchers. So the point of view of this thesis should start from the premise that the text should be regarded as a work of ‘a journalist’, not ‘a modernist poet’. Kim’s vision on literature and realities is based on the world-cognition as a journal-ist and the universal insight as an intellectual.
His writings appeared not only on arts pages but also science columns. That means the fact that most of his works were not ‘pure literary art’ and theyshould be treated as ‘feuilleton’.
Kim wrote ‘A trip to Kando’ right after he became a journalist of the Chosun Il Bo. The newspaper invited openly application for employment in 1930 for the first time in its history. In the text Kim showed a vision of actualism and nationalism, which is in adequate to ‘a modernist’, therefore, has been regarded as unfit for the literary evaluation till now.
In this thesis, I tried to make clear that we should have a different point of view on Kim and his text should be estimated otherwise.
