Some suggestions are made to strengthening Spiritual formation and professional education in seminary.
As our society has been increasingly complex, so the task of the minister has broadened and begun to encompass responsibilities. Field experience is one major answer to integrate practical and academic together. A carefully designed and well-supervised field work program offers opportunities for integrating knowledge and skills.
Mentoring is an important tool for Spiritual formation Spiritual formation groups of six to eight students may have significant impact a student's life. These groups provide an environment, prayer, fellowships and ministry. A group members grow in character and spiritual maturity, significant friendships and ministry partnership are established.
Due to the need for an ever-growing number of diverse ministry skills, it is time for seminaries to move from an indirect to a direct lay-training model. Direct training of church laity is regarded as a part of the seminary mission and function. While, in America, many seminaries offer diverse programs and biblical studies in MA for lay people, in Korean seminaries, there are few biblical programs in MA. In order to activate lay theological education, introduction of biblical studies in MA and distance education are needed.
