This study aims to hammer out a renewed curriculum for the seminary program of Youngnam Theological University and Seminary. In the face of the changing circumstances of the Korean society and in response to the new needs from the church, the seminary is obliged to reevaluate the current curriculum and forge an enhanced one for its future. Furthermore, to maintain its own identity and unity among its member churches. our denomination the Presbyterian Church of Korea regards it imperative for the seminaries affiliated with it teach at least the same required courses.
Some major factors to be considered in the process of laying out a new curriculum are believed to include emphases upon our confessional identity i.e., Reformed tradition, spiritual formation, services to the society, and contextualization of pastoral practicum. These factors represent respectively the crisis of identity of our denomination, the spiritual poverty of lay people as well as pastors, the lack of the church's accountability to the society, and the impracticability of the current pastoral practicum.
To make a critical reflection upon the current curriculum of our theological institution, those of the seminaries affiliate with our denomination will be reviewed. For the benefit of our seminary, some strengths of them will be adopted.
