During these ten years, France have tried to complete its 'duty of memory' through various commemorative acts on Algerian War. Then, what does that mean 'the will for memory'? A nation intends to monopolize the memories of the past to control the present. The opposite groups and forces from extreme right to extreme left also struggle for memory to make theirs of the official ones.
Some intellectuals worry about this 'war of memories' between nation and community, the inside of each community, and different communities. They say there are "too many memories and oblivious". This war and competition for the past often transform into the fight for hegemony destroying true work of study. Only strict analysis of the fact and the text can replace the simplification and blame for one another.
