The Wenyuanlun(文原論) found in WenXinDiaoLong(文心雕龍) refers to the basic theories of literature shown in five works - YuanDao(原道)ㆍZhengSheng(徵聖)ㆍZongJing(宗經)ㆍZhengWei(正緯)ㆍBianSao(辨騷). Not only are these five works closely related but they also play the leading role in so far as the basic theories of the literature in WenXinDiaoLong(文心雕龍) is concerned. These five works also show the basic perspective of literature very well.
This paper presents the reasons behind LiuXie(劉?)'s writing of BianSao(辨騷) and, in the process, giving it the same status as the other four works. In addition, this paper discusses LiuXie(劉?)'s viewpoint on ChuCi(楚辭) and his reasons for writing BianSao(辨騷). In this way, this paper aims to place BianSao(辨騷) in a proper perspective and show the true value of BianSao(辨騷).
