Now, Reality of history education in Korea is not so bright. Through a variety of urgent discussion, a lot of efforts have been made to straighten out Korea history education, nonetheless history education can not beyond limit. Especially in Kore history education much more problems are pointed out. Korea history education should help students who live in real world to improve the ability to see the world through their own subjective viewpoint. From this point of view, ‘ethnos’ discussion should be treated as a huge one, hereupon Korea history education should based on open nationalism accepting changing situation.
Concepts and images on ‘ethnos’ reflected history textbook have been formed, changing through times. As an integrated ideology between pre-modern and modern society, notion that “one nation should be ‘regarded’ as ‘a people’” was put an emphasis, that was the national systematic standpoint, too. On the contrary, in the period of occupation by Japanese imperialism, the concept of ‘people’ was used as a means to defensive system which was used by many nations that became victims of invasion done by Japanese imperialism. In Korea, the term ‘people’ has been used as an opposite one to socialism which was thought as the bondage of our Korean ‘people.’ Therefore the term ‘people’ could be said to be used recklessly, not having exact entity. Being different from history distortion done by Japan and China, our discussion ‘ethnos’ need to be more systematical instead of dealing with simply homogeneity of blood relation, commonness of culture, history of a nation's system, and standpoint of personal or conservative viewpoint.
