This paper aims to analyze the economic problem and countermeasure prior to World War Ⅰ of Sachsen-Kingdom, which was one of the federal governments in the German Empire. Since the beginning of World War Ⅰ, the economy of Sachsen-Kingdom has rapidly fallen into stagnancy compared to other federal governments in the German Empire. As such, the Sachsen-industrie took great interest in establishing countermeasures for the national economic stabilization given the urgent economic problems.
However, the economic policy and countermeasure initiated by Sachsen posed various problems. For one, Sachsen believed that the war would end soon when it was in fact a long drawn-out war. Since Sachsen kingdom's industrial structure depended on active foreign trade and peace and order, their miscalculation developed into a serious problem that prevented Sachsen industries from adapting to the new economic circumstances.
The countermeasure and adaptation to the economic problem brought about by the war were not only formal and temporary; more importantly, the countermeasure was embodied in the direction that sustained existing foreign trade. To protect the economy and industry during emergencies like this war, Sachsen needed to change the activity of the industry into the supply of goods and services to the military and domestic demand trade.
The lack of information by the Sachsen government on the economic situation during the war and the countermeasure of the German imperial government posed another problem, thereby making the place of the Sachsen industry during the war more difficult. The centralization of army supply system based on the strict regulation economy in Germany was another problem for the industry Sachsens. Such burden developed as one of the main causes that caused the fatal failure of the national economy.
