The purpose of this study is to define the metaphoric aspects in Kim Hyeon-seung's late period poetry 『Wing』, 『On the last earth』 by applying the method of discourse structure analysis. In particular, this study focuses on the metaphoric aspects of animals in the poet's late period poems to unveil poetic tension and meanings. The second chapter discusses the presence of animal metaphor based on dynamic vitality in Kim's late period poetry. Mainly, the levels of intention or 'hands' of human beings are animalized in his poems and they are given meanings by the level of materialization. And the animal metaphors based on the motherly liveliness in the late period poems are examined in the third chapter. This process shows mainly the human level is animalized and especially meanings are created through juxtaposition of a woman and an animal. This juxtaposition is replaced with the level of plant and the level of animal. In this sense, the metaphoric aspects of animals in his late poems that are developed through metaphors of dynamics and maternity change from abstract to representational or vice versa, representing the limit of a mortal entity and the will of life to overcome it. One of the most distinguished features of his poems is the absorption of dynamics into motherliness. The study on these the metaphoric aspects of animals is meaningful as it attempts to expose the aesthetic principles or strategies embodying the poet's inherent transcendental will of life.
