Deleuze develops in his Cinema 1: Movement-Image a strong form of ontology of images. It is an ontology supported by the Bergsonian identity of image, matter and movment. Compared with the imaginary turn that can be found in the recent tendency in reading Althusser emphasizing the imaginary with reference to Spinoza, Deleuze's turn is more comprehensive and universal. This paper aims to trace out what is at stake in Deleuze's imaginary turn.
Deleuze is a philosopher. Even though we can find some opposition between Deleuze and Plato, both are truly philosophers inscribed in the history of philosophy. And philosophers are the guardian of the Idea of community. Modernity presented a new task to the subjects of community. It is a task in which the subject should mature/enlighten himself without support from community. This meant a new opportunity for the modern philosophers from Descartes to Hegel. But what we observe in the 20th century the opposite tendency to refuse subjectivization. Then, Deleuze's refusal of the concept of the subject is an attempt to conceive the community without subjects.
