NaongHaegun(懶翁慧勤) is very famous Seon monk(禪僧) in late Korea dynasty as one of three great monks: PaegoonKyeonghan(白雲景閑), TaegoBowoo(太古普愚), NaongHaegun(懶翁慧勤). He was dynamic in two aspects, practicing and teaching. Even though he got enlightenment in his nation Korea already, he visited China in order to meet Seon muster. Eventually he met two big monk, Jigongwhuasang (指空和尙) and PyeongsanCheorim(平山處林) ending up getting Inga (印可) from them.
He made a big effort to teach many various levels of people, for example, Seon monks, chanting people, his disciples, lower class people and high class people. According to their level and character, he gave them a dharma teaching properly.
In order to express his practicing experience and to teach many various levels of people, he composed Buddhist Gasa(佛敎歌辭) and Chinese poetry song(漢文詩歌). I researched these two kinds of his literature in two points of view: the way of narration and genre characteristics. The first, in the way of narration he said his practicing experience to himself in Nakdoga(〈樂道歌〉), differently from teaching various people dharma in Seowangga(〈西往歌〉) and Sungwonga(〈僧元歌〉) among his Buddhist Gasas. So he expressed Buddhist teaching two times more than practicing experience in his Buddhist Gasa. But he said his practicing experience to himself a little more than teaching various people dharma in Chinese poetry song.
The second, I tried to dig up the genre characteristics of his Buddhist Gasa and Chinese poetry song depending upon the way of narration. So his Nakdoga and his Chinese poetry song in which he said his practicing experience to himself are lyrical. In other hand, Seoyangga and Sungwonga, Chinese poetry song in which he taught various people dharma are objective.
Still here there are some subjects to solve in Naong Gasa and his Chinese poetry song, for example, by studying the structure and characteristics of Naong Gasa and Chinese poetry song in the face of teaching people or saying his practicing experience in a separate way. They would be my next works in the near future.
