Nowadays, much work is done through the computer system. The bank performs main tasks through the computer system, e-business system like home shopping performs most order processing by the internet, and many transactions are being processed by the credit card. The computer system plays an important role in supporting these tasks.
As an implementation scheme of a high availability computer system which can make the system available over 99.999% of time, clustering, mirroring, SAN(Storage Area Network), DR(Disaster Recovery), and periodic verification and testing methods were studied. This paper shows that failures of the computer system happens in a non-negligible rate even in companies which pay lots of expenses to build reliable computer system. This paper studies an implementation scheme for the high availability system by investigating the effective methods to prevent failures or to minimize the repair time through the case studies.
