This study is to analyze Gil Jul Yoo`s recognition of `national sovereignty` in his writing. Mid 19century on ward, phenomena of the western power occupying East Asia had brought dramatic changes in the existing Confucian culture to western cultural sphere whether it was voluntary or compulsory. To protect `National Sovereignty` during such circumstances was proposed to countries under Confucian cultural sphere. However, such task resulted in contrary ; Japan became the invader colonizing Choson and Choson was become a colony of Japan. This is also problematic related to the recognition of `national sovereignty` of the ruling class or intellectuals in Choson. This essay starts with questions why Choson forcefully became a colony and why Choson failed to retain `national sovereignty`. Never the less, it focuses on Gil Jun Yoo in the process of studying the recognition of `national sovereignty` of intellectuals in Choson. This study aims to reveal the recognition in `national sovereignty` of Gil Jun Yoo in his writing.
