The purpose of this study is to investigate the actual state of adolescents` sports activity participation and their preference events and to provide the basic data to draw up diverse and actual plans for improving the conditions of adolescents` sports activity participation. Subjects consist of 1,891 including 936 boys and 905 girls of high schools in Seoul selected by way of the stratified cluster random sampling. Instrument for the study was the survey of 10 items reconstituted from those of the questionnaire used in Ministry of Culture and Tourism(1999). Descriptive analysis and Chi-square test was employed for data analysis. The results from this study are followings. First, there is statistically meaningful difference in the reason for sports activity participation according to sex. Second, there is statistically meaningful difference in the place of sports activity according to sex. Third, there is statistically meaningful difference in the frequency of sports activity participation according to sex. Forth, there is statistically meaningful difference in the types of sports activity participation according to sex. Fifth, there is statistically meaningful difference in the information of sports activity according to sex. Sixth, there is statistically meaningful difference in the sports preference events according to sex. Seventh, there is statistically meaningful difference in the sports events actually played according to sex. Eighth, there is statistically meaningful difference in the sports events adolescents wish to learn according to sex.
