The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of type of recovery treatment (massage, cryotherapy, and no treatment) and glucose supplementation performed between games on blood lactate after each game and fatigue-related blood variables (Pi, ammonia, CPK, LDH) before the 1st game, after 3rd game, and after 6th game, while six games were performed in one day. Twelve male collegiate Taekwondo players participated in control trial, massage trial, cryotherapy trial, glucose trial, glucose+massage trial, and glucose+cryotherapy trial repeatedly. Six games of three 2-min round were performed in a day of trial, and appropriate treatment was applied for 20 minutes between games in each trial. Main results of the present study were as follows: 1) Blood lactate remained significantly lower in other five trials than control trial. 2) Pi remained significantly lower in other four trials than control trial and massage trial. 3) No significant trial effect was found in ammonia; however, cryotherapy was effective in reducing ammonia. 4) CPK remained significantly lower in cryotherapy trial, glucose trial, and glucose+cryotherapy trial than other three trials. 5) LDH remained significantly lower in order five trials than control trial. It was concluded that massage was beneficial for reducing blood lactate during repeated games and that cryotherapy was effective to reduce blood lactate, Pi, and CPK. These recovery effects from fatigue was synergic when they combined with glucose supplementation.
