This thesis is aimed to analyze a musical research situation of traditional folk songs, and study next research subject. The musical research situation of traditional folk songs can be largely classified into four kinds of study topic until up to now : (1) A study on a kind of report and music book, which are based on the massive materials gone through recording in the field; (2) A microscopic study on an individual or regional folk songs; (3) A study on an educational application and introduction of folk songs; (4) A study on an analysis theory concerning the scale-Tori토리, melody, beat and rhythm-Jangdan장단, a kind of ornaments-Sigimsae시김새.
Virtually every field of musical study was began in the 1970~80s, but since the 2000s, it is developing and deepening in earnest. First, a study on a report and music book has thus far been concentrated in the Gyeonggi province, which demands the wider expansion of regional scope and depth henceforth. Secondly, a microscopic study on an individual or regional folk songs are varying an object and extending the area range in recent days, but the individual and regional target is much still to do. Thirdly, a study on the field of education is required to discover the more diverse folk songs that is educationally effective and interesting to learn, and develop the correct method of teaching. In future, the transmission of folk songs is assumed to have a close relationship with school education. Lastly, a study on an analysis theory is deeply done these days, but a lively controversy on a scale is still being achieved and an attempt must be made in various studies in a manner of korean music.
In the last analysis, it is high time to prepare a more advanced study in every field of traditional folk songs. Further and closer studies are needed to grasp and understand the characteristics and identity of traditional folk songs.
