The purpose of this study was to define the effects of the movement education program on the perceptual-motor development of mentally retarded student in aspect of their exploration of space through perceptive movements. For the purpose, 30 students were selected in a special middle and high school. The 30 students were considerated by thier IQ, MA, CA and SA. The subjects were tested by Purdue Perceptual Motor Survey before and after treatment of movement education programs. The movement education progrars applied to MR strdents for 8 weeks. The results were as follows; 1. There was no significant differences between before and after test of PMA. But, the score of experimental group showed higher than score of control group respectively. This finding suggests that the movement education program have the effect on mentally retarded student`s perceptual-motor development. 2. The study showed that experimental group was a highest score in the area of visual ajustment. The area of perceptual motor harmony was next level. And then, it is that the area of balance-posture and body differentiation showed similar scores. The area of form perception scored lowest level among those of area in PMS. This results suggest that the movement education program might be improve the perceptual motor skill. 3. The movement education program is useful to train improvement of space perception also. It is an effective factor for the learning of special concepts through perceptual-motor movement program.
