The aim of this study were to evaluate the effect of aquatic exercise on body composition and low back pain. The subjects for this study were nine obesity middle aged women(35-40years) suffered by low back pain over more than one year. The aquatic exercise program consisted of 12 item for improvement of lumbar strength and flexibility. The aquatic exercise preformed for 45-60 min in a bout, 3-5 times a week at the intensity of RPE(11-13) for 12 weeks. And the change of body weight, %fat, skin fold thickness, sit-up, sit and reach, lumbosacral angle, visual analogue scale(VSA) and verbal rating scale(VRA) have been measured before and post exercise 12 weeks. Paired t-test was performed for data analysis at the 0.05 level of significance. The following results were obtained from this study. 1. Body weight and %fat were decreased significantly after 12 weeks aquatic exercise. 2. Sit-up and sit and reach were increased significantly after 12 weeks aquatic exercise. 3. Lumbosacral angle was decreased significantly after 12 weeks aquatic exercise. 4. Visual analogue scale and verbal rating scale were decreased significantly after 12 weeks aquatic exercise. The results suggest that on body composition, flexibility, abdominal strength, lumbosacral angle and low back pain in aquatic exercise for 12 weeks affects obese middle women. On the other hand, long term regular aquatic exercise programs are applicable to the patients with low-back pain, and obese people in safety through the re-composition of exercise intensity and mode.
