The purpose of this paper was to examine the methods on the development and implementation of therapeutic recreation program. This study was attempted to offer the concepts of therapeutic recreation based on a review of the recent literatures and strategies of development of therapeutic recreation program. Recreation and leisure are important to lead a healthy and balanced life in mental and physical aspects. Leisure provides with a good opportunity to have an awareness of self and leisure. leisure program also help to develop the clients` decision making skills, and to enhance the quality of life. Therapeutic recreation refers to the specialized application of recreation to promote the growth and development of the individual. Therapeutic recreation are viewed as a process or systematic use of recreation activities and experiences to achieve specific objectives. Well designed therapeutic recreation program can assist individuals in eliminating barriers in enjoying leisure, developing leisure skills and attitudes and heightening the quality of life. Strategies on the development and of implementation of therapeutic recreation in paper involve : (1) A concept and rationale of therapeutic recreation program, (2) the process and procedures of therapeutic recreation, (3) individualized adaptations and instructional strategies for enabling the clients` active leisure participation. Finally, some suggestions for improving therapeutic recreation programs are presented for future research and practices.
