The purpose of the study was to provide an alternative to enhance student-athletes` academic ability. For this, a total 450 student-athletes and 250 non-student-athletes attending middle or high school located in Seoul and Kyounggi province were selected using purposeful sampling method during February 2009 to December, and finally 650 samples after removing 50 samples that were considered unreliable were used for data analysis. Throughout the process mentioned above, the study attempted to investigate an actual conditions of academic environment that have caused student-athletes` academic deficiency, and then provided a systematic and scene-centered alternative to eventually enhance student-athletes` academic ability. As a result, this study proposed 1) constructing a system that manages student-athlete`s personal academic ability, 2) an improvement of institutional environment related to student-athletes` learning, and 3) a cognitive conversion of persons in charge in academic affair of student-athlete. This study is expected to contribute to various political and institutional efforts for academic performance of student-athletes, and is also expected to be utilized as necessary data needed in policy development and future projects regarding student-athletes and varsity teams.
