This study is an attempt to approach to the development of the trade between Joseon and Ming dynasty in the 16<SUP>th</SUP> century which has not been actively addressed in other studies by investigating the major diplomatic events affecting the trade and the domestic political·economical aspects. In order to understand the flow of trade between Joseon and Ming dynasty in the 16<SUP>th</SUP> century, there are 5 aspects to be considered: The first aspect is the status of “The Country of Courteous People” as diplomatic discourse; The second aspect is the “Moongeum” measure which determined the direction of private trade policy in the early 16<SUP>th</SUP> century as a diplomatic event between Joseon and Ming dynasty; the third aspect is the economical change in which the trade between Joseon and Ming explosively increased by the introduction of Japanese silver; the fourth aspect is the completion of 『Daejeonhusokrok(大典後續錄)』 which was the output of enhanced efforts to eradicate private trade as Gymyosarim(己卯士林) was reinstated. Nevertheless there was a limitation of the measure to prohibit private trade; the fifth aspect is the trade between Joseon and Liaodong region which was sought for as an alternative to supplement such problems as those in the mid-to-late 16<SUP>th</SUP> century. At that time Joseon was expanding its trade range from Beijing to Liaodong, which is the product of the time reflecting the expansion of trade between Joseon and Ming in the 16<SUP>th</SUP> century as well as the clue to explain the changes in the trade between the two countries after Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592.
