This essay is to explore what organizational process Korea’s modern awareness on arts has gone through and how it is formed, and to find contents and meaning of arts awareness that is reflected on such a discourse. This is also colligated with a task to understand the reality of arts that was designated as a ideology of which Korean literature should arrive, at the beginning of modern literature. It is because that the awareness on Korea’s modern literature has a close relationship with the awareness of modern art Thus, the paper focused on the way which individual discourse including discourses on literature, arts and religion that are most actively discussed, are combined with the arts discourses as well as analyzing logical organization method of modern awareness on arts of those discourses. For example, the paper focused on arguments of Lee Kwang-su and Kim Dong-in for literature discourse, those of Choi Nam-seon, Kim Hwan, Kim Chan-yeong for art discourse, and those of Shin Tae-ak and Oh Sang-soon for religion discourse. Based on this analysis, the study has found detailed aspects of complex and multiple awareness of Korea’s awareness on arts in modern times. Also, it has newly found that Korea’s modern awareness on arts did not follow the linear footstep of just getting autonomy only escaping from heteronomy and, also that it tried to recognize the arts on foundation of aesthetic humanities while adhering to conversational relationship with Korea’s humanistic tradition during the process of accepting western arts awareness.
