The purpose of this paper is to examine the policy for readers and literatures of the newspaper Maeilsinmun during modern enlightenment period. It was very important for modern newspapers to improve readers’ reading. The newspaper Maeilsinmun had also played an important role for forming new novels and modern readers.
Actually, the newspaper Maeilsinmun had been published by the community Hyupsunghui which students in Bajaehakdang had belonged to. At the first time, students in Bajaehakdang had been published the magazine Hyupsunghuihuibo once a week. But they had changed to publish modern daily newspaper.
The newspaper Maeilsinmun had used the strategy of literature in articles and Jabbo that was the column for news from reader’ letters. These strategies of literature had influenced to readers, and they had written a letter by using the literature. Finally the newspaper Maeilsinmun had attempted to form new readers who were middle-group readers in Chosun. This was the appearance of the new intellectual readers.
