Salt is irreplaceable necessaries. It is used regularly by all people as both a seasoning and a preservative. There had been used to make sea salt for a long time in Korea. Sea salt manufactured by boiling on the fire. Salt manufacture and marketing had changed through the opening of a port. Japanese Imperialism invaded Korea by means of policy and economy and they have rearranged the economic of structure of colony during the period of Japanese Domination. So, Salt manufacture system in Korea had been much altered by salt policy of Japanese Imperialism The purpose of thesis is to investigate how the situation of salt manufacture and method of saltmaking in Incheon Area had been changed through the early 20th Century. This study can be summarized as following. First, I seek to find out the process which Salt Industry in Incheon had moved to modern sun-dried salt manufacture from medieval fire-boiled salt manufacture. Since the early 20th century sun-dried salt has been introduced into korea and begun to be manufactured through the modern way of production. Secondly, I seek to find out the circumstances which sun-dried salt from China was imported in Incheon. Lastly, I try to find out the formation of the refined salt industry and manufacture situation, manufacturing technique. It is hoped that this study on Salt Industry will become somewhat helpful in making it clear how the system of its production in Incheon had been confronted and changed under the inflow of modern salt manufacture system after the opening of a port
