In this thesis, the focus of analysis is to show open the aspects and the meaning of relationship between the railroad Kyeong-In Line(경인선) and Korean modern literature. For attaining its purpose, we have try to use the positive investigating materials and the critical accepting excellent results of scholarship related to the Kyeong-In Line. It is widely known to all that the invention of railroad arouse much of alteration into everyday life as well as literature in modern society. For instance its emergence should be accompanied by the changes of our perceiving time and space. Shortly speaking, the history of Korean railroad summarizes the history of modern Korea being full of turns and twists on account of imperial states' scramble for the occupying Her. If so, what are the cultural meaning the literary significance of appearance of railroad? These could be arranged following. 1) As the above mentioned, the invention and development of railroad have changed the sense and perception of modern people‘s time and space. So to speak it has made the unprecedented recognition of time and space, modern people free from natural bindings. 2) It has resulted in the industrialization and the commercialization of natural scenery. Explaining more fully, it make the new scenery to be build bridge across river, digging tunnel through mountain, making a level road and so on in oder to secure the stability in train's operation. the works including <the advertisement of the Railroad Kyeong-In Line Co. 경인철도회사 광고 문>, <Ode to eight sceneries in the Railroad Kyeong-In Line 경인팔경?, <A travel sketch on Incheon 인천원족기> and many others. 3) It brings about such the new reading-convention as silent reading. Because it is impolite for any other passengers to be reading aloud in train-chamber like public facilities. Furthermore, most of passengers cannot help reading to stand the strain of the long and monotonous journey in it. The sensible publishers and the book-distributers become aware of theirs state are going to develop and to sell such the cheap paperbacks as detective story, romance, adventure and reading matters for killing time. 4) The Railroad Kyeong-In Line has stirred up creation of kinds of literature: Gasa <a traditional song of the Railroad Kyeong-In Line 경인철도가>, series-Sijo <Ode to eight sceneries in the Railroad Kyeong-In Line 경인팔 경>, the first Korean detective fiction <a pair Korean-fife 쌍옥적>, the famous modernist-poet Kim Gi-Rim‘s poem <In the road : the scenery of Jemulpoo station 길에서 : 제물포 풍경>, the one of representative Korean poets Suh Jong-joo's <a memorial poem for constructing a double tract of the Kyeong-In metro Line 경인선 복선 개통의 날에>, and so on. 5) The development of transportations included train have contributed to be shaped the national state and the production-mode of capitalism. 6) The Kyeong-In Line as an important research-object of studies of Incheon is the mirror and the data that can see through the early history of modern In-cheon and the entire-picture of modern Korean literature have not acquainted with, until now.
