The Korean folksong have changed to song of special artist singer, called for Tongsok minyo(通俗民謠) in the end og 19c, and it have changed once more to the new folksong(新民謠) in 1930s.
The original folksong(土俗民謠) was created by the people, nonprofessional population. So the musical feature of the korean folksong is very simple tune, the narrow range within a octave, and the tune of folksong repeat infinitly.
The professional folksong was called Japga(雜歌), was sung by professional artist. Its tues was polished, the rang became wider over one octave. The melody repetition of the professional folksong was limited to several times.
The new folksongs was made by some composer, its range became narrow again like the oricinal folksong. And the repetition of the tune was very limited to one or two. The form of the new folksong was standardized, so there was no change in the melody.
But the new folksong tune came from the professional folksong, and the professional folksong came from the original folksong. The change in society of the end of 19c and the early 20c of Korea made the change of Korean folksong, but the traditional of the folksong and the feature of the tune, like the melody, rhythmic cycle, etc., was continued. And the Korean folksong traditional lead to the Korean Popsong today.
