This study aims to diagnose the problems of machine translation on the basis of the analysis about the machine translation accuracy of translating Japanese into Korean, provided by the four major portal sites ; google, bing, naver and yahoo. The study further could be a step to consider how well to utilize the machine translation in the Japanese language education with the improvements suggested in this study as well.
The four machine translations, showing more than 90% of translation rate, have been staged to a certain level to offer low-leveled translation satisfactory to internet users in searching for necessary information. In terms of translating informational or explanation text, the translation rate has been shown relatively low in cooking recipe and high in instructions. Also, high mis-translation rate has been noticed in nouns and verbs. Particularly, common and proper nouns and Wago(words of Japanese origin) and Kango(words of chinese origin) have showed high mis-translation rate.
By analysing the translation results of the informational or explanation text, translated by the four portal sites at the same time, this study could secure its objectivity and reliability. The various analysis results on this study would expect to be a stepping stone to see more accurate and effective machine translation as a tool.
