This year marks the 100th anniversary of writer Whang, Sunwon`s birth(1915~2000). He is rare, exceptional writer who get along with us in our modern times. Especially his literary time, from the end of 1930`s to the end of 1980`s, we spend together our glorious and shameful time, in our history. The writer Whang, Sunwon wrote 100s of short stories and 7 novels during that time. He described many kinds of conflicts under the Land reform in north Korea before Korean War. Some novels depicted big problems in our society after Korean War. Many short stories are almost same, but they are more pure, delicate, and lyrical in short stories. Like this, he wrote many works which represent his experience and big problem such as traditional values, religion, environment, ecology etc. Basically he insisted honesty, humanity, respect for life under the pure- lyricism which are common points. So in this thesis, I emphasized on characteristics of his literature both sociality, historicity and pure- lyricism. The present age understanding of realities(당대적 현실 인식) is almost equal value with his purelyricism. To prove it, I analyzed his literary essay in ≪language & life & freedom≫ which was published to celebrate to writer`s 70 years old. Exceptionally he directly expressed his thinking, mind and opinion to everything around him in this essay. Because he always said “ Writer always said in works.”. So he never expose his mind or thinking about something before. But this time, sometimes he confessed deep inside of mind. His concern to the symptom of society is also strong. And also, he emphasized the consideration to others, honesty, the attitude of writer, and so on. His literature is meaningful to understand each time and society that he describe it. It is the reason why the title of this research focused on diachronic meaning. It is the value of his literature.
