The purpose of this study was to review previous studies on cultural capital in Korean society and offer some suggestions for following studies. First, we organized main issues of previous studies on cultural capital by time period and explored their contributions and limitations. The former period of cultural capital studies, from mid 1990s to mid 2000s, could be summarized as an appearance of studies on cultural capital and class reproduction, an appearance of studies on class and differentiation of cultural tastes, and an attempt to investigate attributes of cultural capital in Korean society. Since mid 2000s, researches on these existing issues have been increased in quantity and at the same time diversified and deepened in quality. Future studies need to develop unified cultural capital index in order to overcome ambiguity of conceptualization and operationalization of cultural capital. In addition, empirical researches exploring how individuals utilize their cultural capital in various life situations should be addressed. Lastly, following studies need to be diversified in consideration of distinct characteristics of today’s Korean society such as the digital era.
