This study intends to analyse contents about the development of Korean printing craft in Korean history textbooks. To achieve the purpose of this study, I surveyed previous studies and 31 Korean history textbooks. Those are 22 history textbooks of Korean Education Source Materials Museum, 1 history textbook of mine, and 8 Korean History textbooks approved by the Ministry of Education in 2013.

The contents about Korea Dynasty’s Daejangkyung were well described in the majority of history textbooks. The contents about invention and excellence of Korea Dynasty’s metal printing types and the contents about improvement of Chosun Dynasty’s metal printing types were differently described. The contents about Mugujeonggwangdaranigyung was described in textbooks from 1968 and the contents about Jikjisimcheyojul was described in textbooks from 1980s.

The study results of history academic circles were substantially reflected in the majority of history textbooks. But the wrong terms and periods were found in many history textbooks. It is natural to emphasize patriotism in Korean history textbooks, but it is dangerous to exaggerate contents or to distort those. It is necessary to describe contents correctly and to base on the study results of history academic circles.
