The purpose of this study was to provide basic information for developing program to aid academic stress management and emotional regulation ability of 6th grade students. The experiences of 11 students who participated 10 sessions of Focusing Group Program intended to facilitate academic stress management and emotional regulation ability were examined. By using Focus group interview in 5 students of group A and 6 students of group B were analyzed. The results showed that 3 themes, 9 categories and 28 subcategories were drawn. The first theme was named as ‘Effects of Physical Activity’ and underneath categories named as ‘physical awareness’, ‘experience of relaxation’, and ‘experience of space’ were retrieved. The second theme was named as ‘emotional change’ and underneath categories named as ‘experience of safe’, ‘increase in self-esteem’ and ‘reduction in stress’ were drawn. The third theme was named as ‘changes in academic attitude’ and underneath categories named as ‘find motivation’, ‘acquire academic method’ and ‘acknowledging potential’ were retrieved. Based on the results of this study, further studies and suggestions were proposed for the effectiveness of Focusing Group Program for enhancing academic stress management and emotional regulation ability.
