With a housing supply rate exceeding 100% in 1990, Singapore promoted self-ownership promotion policies to expand private ownership of Housing Development Board (HDB) through government , 84% of the entire population is living in stable housing built and supplied by the government. However, they prefer a private house with security, swimming pool and better amenities. Since 1990, as the social demand for modernization of housing environment has increased due to continuous economic growth, income level, improvement of living standard and technological development, demand for private housing has increased greatly due to the resurgence of the resale market. In addition, HDB’s main focus policy is to upgrade the existing HDB housing. The government sector is making efforts not only to supply large quantities of public housing, but also to meet the needs of consumers who demand high-quality housing.
In this context, this study aims to analyze the characteristics of the high - rise condominiums, which occupy more than half of the private houses built in the 2000s, by comparing them with the characteristics seen in the HDB flat. This is a measure to measure the direction of Singapore’s residential environment that leads the Southeast Asian residential culture as a typical dense country.
