In modern society, human desires and values are rapidly changing. Moreover, the existing, standardized school uniforms are limited in terms of how they satisfy the aesthetic preferences of adolescents, who are sensitive to trends. Since clothing satisfaction has a great effect on the emotions and behaviors of adolescents, how school uniform designs follow current trends, as well as provide comfort and functionality, to enhance student satisfaction with school life is a worthwhile research topic. The share of knitwear in the casual and sports wear markets is increasing rapidly due to consumer trends that favor comfort and leisure. This tendency corresponds to youth fashion trends, which represent the psychology of adolescents. Accordingly, knitwear can be applied to design comfortable and appropriate school uniforms that represent the fashion preferences of adolescents. This study reviewed the concept and status of school uniforms and knitwear based on a theoretical study on the development of school uniform design and analyzed contemporary youth fashion trends and relevant brands. Through such analysis, this study aims to propose a school uniform design model using knit fabric that is responsive to current trends while providing comfort. It is expected that the school uniform design using circular knit fabric proposed in this study will contribute to expanding the school uniform market and the product development sector of school uniform manufacturing companies. This study will also present new possibilities for design ideas that accommodate the psychology of expectation and expression-seeking tendencies of adolescents.
