Academic interest has been studied in the field of interest with mixed concepts such as text interest, subject interest, and domain specific interest. In addition, researchers who studied this area did not have theoretical consistency on the study of academic interest. So the purpose of the study was to identify the concept of academic interest and its development, investigate the role of academic interest in school learning, search for educational practices to increase academic interest in the school context, and provide the future directions of academic interest. As a result of the study, academic interest is proved as special interest in the academic situation such as studying in the classroom among the wide range of interests. Academic interest is shown to have important psychological properties for students, which help them learn with intrinsic motivation, and provide them choose their curriculum, and make their career decisions. As a practical way of teaching academic interest in school education, it is important to be interested in class based on instructional materials which give them interesting curriculum situation and lead to stable academic interest. Among the suggestions to increase academic hope is the use of visualization method in reading class based on the textbook learning. In addition to it, increasing interests of the teachers in the class are also important factors. In the prospect of academic interest, researchers suggested that continuing studies should be made on the relationship with psychological properties to enhance the academic interest in the school field. Based on these studies, discussion about academic interests, educational significance and limitations were suggested.
