The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of exercise program in elderly women. We checked the serum HDL cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, triglyceride and total cholesterol which are very important factors in health for the elderly. The exercise program was composed of three components, 10 minutes warming-up, 40 minutes main exercise and 10 minutes finishing exercise. These exercises were conducted three times a week and continued for 10 weeks. Serum HDL cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, triglyceride and total cholesterol before and after exercise program checked by automatic biochemical analysis. 1. There was no significant difference between serum HDL cholesterol before exercise(43.63 mg/ml) and after exercise(45.50 mg/ml). 2. There was a significant decrease between serum LDL cholesterol before exercise(134.00 mg/ml) and after exercise(125.00 mg/ml).(p=0.03) 3. There was no significant difference between serum triglysceride before exercise(170.25 mg/ml) and after exercise(145.38 mg/ml). 4. There was a significant decrease between serum total cholesterol before exercise(216.88 mg/ml) and after exercise(200.50 mg/ml).(p=0.02) Results of this study showed that exercise program has positive effects on serum LDL cholesterol and total cholesterol. The exercise program used in this study was found to be not only amusing but also healthy. We concluded that this exercise program could be a effective intervention program for improving health in the elderly.
