Purpose: Since the enforcement of ‘Act on Special Education for Persons’ in 2007, a therapy support system had been introduced, Professional therapy service has been given to students necessary for special education. This study investigated perception of the special teachers about speech therapy support in special education Classes. Methods: For this purpose, a Questionnaire surveyed from 70 special education teachers in Busan and Daegu. Major contents of the questionnaire included basic information, Actual Conditions of operations of speech therapy classes, communication disorders area, necessity of speech therapy in school setting, content of speech therapy support and want to get more support, difficulties of speech therapy support, etc. Results: First, The major communication problems of students supported speech therapy showed that appearing with the highest frequency included incorrect pronunciation, stuttering appears, delay in language comprehension and expression. Second, To the question about the advantages of speech therapy in school setting, the reply ‘increases confidence in treatment’ was highest. Third, To the question about the difficulties of speech therapy, the reply ‘lack of speech therapy sessions’, ‘lack of time communicating with teachers’ were highest. Fourth, To the question about not conducted reasons of speech therapy support services, the reply ‘lack of budget’ was highest. Fifth, To the question about the information of desired speech therapy support services, the reply ‘functional language intervention that can use in school and at home’ was highest. Conclusions: This study is significant in that, an accurate understanding of perception of special teachers in school setting was needed for the successful speech therapy support. It is expected that these result will be helpful for finding a better direction to perform speech therapy support in school setting successfully.
